Are you looking at switching from smoking to vaping? No vape stores in your area? Have you been wanting to make the switch for a while but are unsure of what to look for? Don’t worry, this article will assist you in being able to figure out and find what it is you’re looking for! 

Okay, first things first, what type of device are you looking for? Are you wanting to go for something of a pen-type? A box mod? A pod? 

Pen and pod devices are very simple and easy to use: you have your fire button and you will also have an LED indicator. This will be able to tell you where your battery levels are and if there are any problems with your coil/pod. 

Box mods are more customisable: you will have your adjustable wattage feature. What that means is that you will be able to turn the power up and down. The more wattage you use, the more flavour and cloud production you will see and the more throat hit you will get. So, you will have more control over what kind of hit you’re getting. You will be able to see your battery levels and you will have a little pop up on the screen if there is a problem with your coil. 

The second question to ask is: what kind of inhale style are you after? Are you wanting a mouth-to-lung (MTL) or a direct lung (DL)? An MTL mimics the way you draw from a cigarette and DL is like taking a big deep breath. The appeal of MTL is the cigarette-style draw; whereas the appeal of DL is the larger flavour and hits.

When trying to determine the difference online, have a look at the description and if it tells you the coils are approximately 0.6ohm - 1.8ohm and recommended under 20w, that will mean it’s most likely an MTL device. For a DL coil, they are generally 0.1ohm - 0.6ohm and recommended above 20w.

The next question to ask is, are you wanting an internal battery device or an external battery device? With an internal battery, it is like charging your phone, where you plug it in and it’s good to sit for a while. Whereas an external battery device, it is highly recommended to charge your batteries in an external battery charger. You will get much more battery life from external batteries, plus you can get spare sets of batteries and rotate them, ensuring you’re never without charge! 

Another question to ask is: are you wanting something pocket-friendly, something bag-friendly or are you not really phased? On the description of these products, you’ll be able to find their dimensions. You can also go onto YouTube and search for a review on the desired device and you can hopefully get an idea of the size. You will also be able to see what features it has, the flavour on the coils and any other little bits and pieces that can help you with making your decision. 

After deciding on the device, it’s time to choose some e-liquid! So, another thing to ask is: what kind of flavour do you want? A dessert or something fruity? A candy or beverage? How about tobacco? It’s all about what you see yourself liking and whatever is going to help you kick those stinkies! 

A hubba-bubba grape style is normally a safe bet because a lot of people love that kind of flavour! If you’re unsure, you can always pick a dessert, a fruit and/or tobacco flavour (if you want to try one) - because these are the top 3 flavour groups customers go for - trying each category for yourself.

It’s best to do some research on the device you’re thinking of going for, whether reading reviews about the device or jumping onto youtube and watching a couple of videos to determine if it is the right device for you! Don’t be scared to ask yourself these questions, otherwise, you may end up with a device that isn’t best suited to you.

Personally, I wish I had done more research and asked myself these kinds of questions because I ended up with a very expensive device that was not well suited to me. I know I wanted a box mod but I ended up with an MTL device, when a DL was what I really wanted, even if I didn’t know it at the time.
